On July 2, there was an important landmark in the shipbuilding process, which consists in mounting the first block of the Unit on the building berth.
The OPV 4, whose contract was signed between ASMAR and the Directorate of Navy Services on January 12, 2015, will contribute in the task of safety, presence, oversight and surveillance of the south zone of the country, corresponding to the jurisdiction of the V Naval Zone with its base port in Puerto Montt. This unit will be delivered to the Navy in 2017.
The Offshore Patrol Vessel OPV 4 is the continuation of the Danubio IV Project that began in 2005, whose purpose is to build a series of 6 offshore patrol boats for the Chilean Navy, of which the OPV 81 “Piloto Pardo”, OPV 82 “Comandante Toro” and OPV 83 “Marinero Fuentealba” are already operating in the different Naval Zones.
