The maritime ambulances, built by ASMAR Valparaíso, continue to provide important support to the inhabitants of Chiloé. An example of this was the timely transfer of an elderly patient suffering from a vascular stroke and aspiration pneumonia. Thanks to this action, this patient was able to receive the necessary attention to stabilize him and then be transfered to the base hospital of Castro, where he received the necessary treatments by the medical specialists and thus save his life.
“In a normal boat, the transfer to Quellón could have taken almost an hour if the weather and the navigation conditions allow it, thanks to the maritime ambulance, taking the patient of Laitec took a little more than 10 minutes. Having this means of transportation has been wonderful, since under the conditions of the patient he might have even died, “said the paramedic of Laitec, an island that is part of a small group of islands southeast of the Chiloé Archipelago.
With the delivery by ASMAR of the five maritime ambulances, rescue times have decreased, allowing a more timely delivery of health to the inhabitants of the most remote sectors of the Chiloé Archipelago.
